Police are warning businesses near Meaford to be on alert following a spike in counterfeit $20 bills.
Grey Bruce OPP say multiple reports have been received in recent weeks about fake $20 notes being used in local transactions. Officers are investigating and working to identify those responsible.
Business owners are urged to take extra care during cash transactions and to train staff to recognize counterfeit currency. Key features to check include the holographic strip, transparent window, raised ink, and hidden numbers.
Anyone who suspects they’ve received a counterfeit bill is advised not to confront the individual, but to contact police. More information is available on the Bank of Canada’s website.
