Bruce Power donation supports Brain Tumour Foundation

The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada will use a large donation from Bruce Power to offer the most advanced radiation treatment for brain cancer.

Bruce Power says the $100,000 donation marked World Brain Tumour Day, which was on June 8.

For more than 35 years, Bruce Power has been at the forefront of medical innovation and the production of medical isotopes.

“Bruce Power’s donation enables Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada to provide one of the most targeted and advanced forms of radiation treatments available for many brain cancers today," said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President, who also serves Chair of the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council. "Together, we can offer support and hope to those in need.”

Nicole Farrell, Interim CEO of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, said the organization is deeply grateful to Bruce Power and its supplier partners for their generous donation.

“While research is critical and we are thankful to every donor who helps bring us closer to a cure, support like this allows us to make an impact now,” Farrell said. “As a 100 per cent donor-funded organization, this contribution directly helps patients and families today, whether through our patient and caregiver handbooks, life-enhancing webinars and podcasts, or peer-led support groups that address the emotional, cognitive, and physical challenges of a brain tumour diagnosis. Because of Bruce Power and its suppliers, we can meet people where they are and provide the help they need, when they need it most.”

The donation is the result of the combined commitments from Bruce Power’s Community Investment Fund and the Supplier Sponsorship Program, which features nearly 60 companies from throughout the nuclear supply chain.

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, along with the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario, are also recipients of donations through Bruce Power’s isotope merchandise website at www.isotopemerch.com. Each purchase of items, including clothing, drinkware, and office supplies, results in a $1 donation to each organization.
