When a free family-friendly event celebrating Huron County's rich cultural diversity returns later this month, it will be at a new location.
This year's Huron Multicultural Festival will be held at Lion's Harbour Park in Goderich on June 28. It is the first year the festival has moved from Courthouse Park. It will run from noon until 7 p.m. with live performances from artists and dancers from around the world. Headliners include Kazdoura, a vibrant fusion of Arabic Maqams, middle eastern groovy rhythms, psychedelia, and soulful jazz saxophone; and JUNO Award-winning performer Quique Escamilla, a Mayan-Zapotec singer-songwriter who blends Pan-American rhythms with stories that elevate Indigenous Peoples’ voices.
“The Huron Multicultural Festival is a great way to celebrate the many cultures that make our community special,” said Allie Brenner, cultural development officer with Huron's Cultural Office. “It’s a chance for everyone to come together through music, dance, art, and food—and to experience the unique creativity and energy each culture has to share.”
The one-day festival will also feature a global food court and marketplace offering a variety of international cuisines and artisan crafts. For the kids, there will be games and cultural activities designed to educate and entertain young festival-goers.
Admission to the event is free. Additional information about all of the performers slated to take the festival stage can be found at www.huroncounty.ca/multicultural-festival.
