Residents in Bruce County are being asked to consider adoption... the adoption of a county road.
County officials have put out a call to individuals, families, and community groups to considering signing up for its adopt-a-highway program this season. The community driven initiative sees volunteers work to keep a designated stretch of road clean of litter and debris.
“Bruce County is committed to protecting our public green spaces and supporting community well-being through programs like Adopt-a-Highway,” said Andrew Beumer, the county's manager of environmental services. “Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we’re making a visible difference. One stretch of road at a time.”
There is no cost to join the program and cleaning supplies are provided. As well, a sign acknowledging the individual or group of an adopted section is placed at either end of the road. To adopt a highway, residents can email transportationinfo@brucecounty.on.ca or call the Transportation and Environmental Services Department at 519-881-2400
So far, more than 300 kilometres of Bruce County roadway has been adopted through the program.
