People in Wallaceburg and the surrounding area will have one less person to vote for during next month's municipal election.
Mark Childs is dropping out of the election, nearly two months after choosing to put his name forward.
He told CK News Today he initially thought he could manage being a councillor and his regular job, but realized he was wrong.
"I firmly believe that anybody taking a council position should be retired or unemployed, because doing both, I just don't see how someone can balance the two together," said Childs.
People expecting him to put his entire focus on his job will be wrong. Childs explained that he plans to remain vocal on different issues, doing so on his own time.
One thing he wants to help address is misinformation. He provided multiple examples, including how some people believe there's no reason for people to hand out clean needles to drug addicts. He explained that sharing used needles can lead to diseases like Hepatitis C being transmitted, costing thousands of dollars in treatment.
"The other mistruth that's been out there is that there's this van dropping people off in our municipality. Truth be told, that van is a van that goes around to community to community picking people up and testing them for Hep C and dropping them off," added Childs.
He's hoping people do their own research on issues that are important to them before choosing who to vote for.
When voters head to the polls, they will notice that Childs' name will still be on the ballot. This is because the ballots have already been made, with Childs missing the deadline to have his name removed.
He's asking people not to vote for him and instead support any of the other 13 candidates running in Ward 5.
