A Chatham butcher is looking to join the world of politics.
Marc King is running in Chatham-Kent's (CK) upcoming municipal election, hoping to be one of two Ward 7 Councillors representing the northeast part of Chatham.
He told CK News Today he decided to run because he believes the next council needs to make tough choices to improve the lives of everyone in the municipality, and this is something he's prepared to do.
"Like never before, there will be a need for Councillors who are prepared to make the difficult decisions that will help strengthen our economy, clean up our streets, and generate positive, financially sustainable solutions that lead to community improvement," explained King.
If elected, King would like to prioritize decisions that'll improve the economy.
"We need real work for real people, because that spurs growth in many areas, from small businesses to the entire municipality," he said.
Despite lacking political experience, King sees himself as a good candidate. This is due to his experience running a business and his love for the area.
"I've been here my whole life. I've seen Chatham go through ups and downs, and I feel like we're on a positive upswing, and I feel like I'm up for the task to help make those decisions that'll lead us in the right direction," he added.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
