For the fifth year, the Chatham-Kent Arts Council plans to celebrate the impact people from Chatham-Kent (CK) have on arts and culture locally and around the world.
Nominations are open for new inductees for the CK Cultural Hall of Fame.
"The number of world-renowned people who got their start in Chatham-Kent is staggering," said Vicki McFarland, CKAC's Interim Chair.
The list of names in the Hall of Fame stands at 44. Some honourees include Shae-Lyn Bourne, Michelle Wright, Sylvia Tyson, June Caldwell, and Robertson Davies.
"The Cultural Hall of Fame is not just about the luminaries," McFarland added. "It is also about recognizing the individuals who built our cultural organizations, nurtured and mentored the next generations, and invested their talent and passion into creating a cultural landscape rich with music, visual art, dance, performance, and writers."
Individuals or groups will be chosen from six different categories, including dance, literary arts, music, theatre arts, visual arts, and cultural builders. Eventual inductees will have their photo and biography mounted on a plaque, which will be on permanent display at the Chatham Cultural Centre.
Nominations don't just come from the CKAC; suggestions are welcome from the public.
"The Hall of Fame is truly a community project," said Lee Highgate, Committee Chair of the CK Cultural Hall of Fame. "The public's direct input via the nomination process keeps the Cultural Hall of Fame relevant and vibrant."
Nominees can include living or deceased individuals. The form to nominate someone can be found here.
Awards will be presented on October 22, at the CKAC's annual CK Cultural Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Celebration.
