A factory worker is hoping to secure a spot on the next Chatham-Kent (CK) council.
John Duquette, who was born and raised in Chatham, is running to be one of two Ward 8 councillors, representing the southern part of Chatham.
Duquette decided to throw his hat in the ring after noticing the amount of money the current council was spending.
"I just wanted to put my name forward because I've noticed that the current council spends a lot of taxpayer money on I guess wants instead of the needs of the community," said Duquette.
The candidate, who is in his late twenties, added that if he joins council, he would like to add ways for people in his age group to get involved with the community.
When discussing why residents should vote for Duquette, he told CK News Today that he will strive for financial transparency.
"I would be more focused on our taxpayer money being spent on the needs instead of the wants and the transparency behind what the money's actually being spent on," explained Duquette.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
