A salon owner in Chatham is putting her name forward to be a councillor on Chatham-Kent's (CK) next municipal council.
Sandra Dorner is running to be one of two Ward 8 councillors, representing the southern part of Chatham.
She told CK News Today that she decided to run after becoming frustrated by how often the current council struggles to work together.
"I'm tired of the us-and-them attitude that goes on. We can't get anything done that's effective, and that's based on what the taxpayers want to get done," said Dorner.
She explained that there have been too many instances in which both sides refused to budge on an issue, even though they should be working together to find a solution that works for everyone.
There's not a single issue that stays top of mind for Dorner. Instead, she believes the next council needs to focus on improving the municipality now and in the future.
"We want our businesses to grow, our families to thrive. We need to connect with economic development, housing, health care, education, and public safety in one coordinated strategy," she explained.
Despite having no political experience, Dorner believes she has a lot to offer the municipality.
"I have tons of business experience locally, in Ontario, in Canada, and internationally. I think I could provide a lot of value," she added.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
