Wait times for OPP police record check slashed

So you have a new job and need a police record check, but you're worried about how long it will take.

The Ontario Provincial Police say the wait is a lot shorter now than it was last summer and fall, when those seeking a police record check were waiting up to 14 weeks.

"We heard the concerns from community members and organizations who rely on timely results, and we took steps to address the issue," said a release.

Since then, it has conducted a full review of the Online Police Record Checks Unit, including an internal audit, updates to policies and procedures, and the allocation of additional resources to meet demand.

It worked. The OPP says all record checks should be completed in 30 days. Now, the average turnaround is 10 days.

The OPP is also publishing current wait times on the application website.
