Some tenants in Chatham will stay toasty warm this weekend thanks to the generosity of their property manager.
Sarah Molnar of family-owned Paragon Property Management in Chatham told CK News Today she paid the hydro bill at the 8-unit apartment building, where seniors reside, at 73 Taylor Avenue in Chatham out of her own pocket because the power was disconnected on Thursday morning, cutting off the electric heat.
Molnar noted the bill was thousands of dollars, and she paid it because the property owner is currently having some cash flow problems.
The power and heat was off for four hours on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the tenants noted.
Molnar said it's the proper thing to do because her company cares about its tenants and their safety.
"Obviously, we don't want our tenants to go without hydro or heat. So, we quickly called Entegrus and paid the bill," said Molnar.
Molnar said this type of issue is rare.
"It's not very often, no, it's very rare. We trust our owners. We do have good clients, and they were just in a pickle. We just want to make sure that we provide good housing for our tenants," Molnar noted.
The property owner is from out of town.
Friday is expected to have record lows with temperatures around minus 30 Celsius, including the wind chill, on Friday night into Saturday morning.
