Municipality completes installation of new AEDs

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has completed a project intended to strengthen public safety and emergency preparedness at municipal facilities.

New Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) have been installed at 40 high-traffic locations across the community, including municipal centres, libraries, and pools.

"Having AEDs readily available in our municipal facilities can make a real difference in an emergency," said Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff. "This investment is about protecting the health and safety of our residents, visitors, and staff, and ensuring our public spaces are as safe and prepared as possible."

AEDs are life-saving devices designed to help someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. When used quickly, an AED can significantly increase survival rates by restoring a normal heart rhythm.

These devices are safe, easy to use, and each one provides step-by-step voice instructions to guide users through the process until emergency responders can arrive.

The municipality will continue to be responsible for the AEDs going forward. Staff will ensure the devices are clearly marked and accessible, properly maintained, and that their use is integrated into emergency response protocals at each location.
