Police Pursuit

A routine patrol in Blenheim led to a brief police pursuit and ended with a local man facing several charges.

On Monday afternoon, a Chatham-Kent (CK) officer spotted a vehicle with an obstructed licence plate on Flemingo Street.

When the vehicle stopped at the intersection of James and Talbot Street West, the officer identified the driver as a 29-year-old Blenheim man.

Police say a quick check revealed the man was prohibited from driving. When the officer attempted to pull him over, the driver took off, heading westbound on Talbot Street West.

He was located a short time later, and officers took him into custody without further incident.

The man is now facing several charges, including four counts of operating a vehicle while prohibited, flight from police, failing to comply, and driving while suspended.

He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Theft Charges

Officers were called to a retail store on St. Clair Street on Monday, after staff reported a suspected shoplifter just after 1:30 p.m.

Police say a man entered the store, picked up several items, and then tried to leave without paying.

Store security stopped the individual, identified as a 31-year-old man from CK, before he could get away.

Officers arrived shortly afterwards and took the man into custody. He’s now facing charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court on January 5, 2026.

Break and Enter

A Wallaceburg man has been arrested in connection with two residential break-ins.

On Sunday morning, officers were called to a home on Minnie Street after the homeowner reported that someone had broken into a shed attached to the house.

While police were still investigating, a second resident approached them to report that their home on Duke Street had also been broken into earlier that day.

Police say the suspect left both properties with stolen items.

Surveillance footage helped officers identify the 46-year-old man from CK.

As the investigation continued, officers gathered grounds to charge the man with several offences, including break and enter with intent to commit theft, break and enter to commit theft, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, trespassing at night, and disguise with intent. A warrant for his arrest was issued.

Early Monday morning, officers located the man on George Street in Wallaceburg and arrested him on the outstanding warrant.

He remains in custody for a bail hearing.
