Unifor to hold strike vote for Stellantis workers

Unifor will hold a strike authorization vote for its Stellantis members after being unable to reach an agreement with the company during weeks of negotiations.

Collective bargaining began on September 1. Unifor paused contract talks on September 11 after the company announced it had a memorandum of understanding to sell the Brampton Assembly Plant.

"To be clear, the unresolved issues with the company extend well beyond the future of the Brampton Assembly Plant. They relate to the broader job security of all union members and the future of Stellantis operations across Canada. Strike action remains a last resort, but the ability to strike is an important part of collective bargaining and can help create the conditions for an agreement," said a statement from the Master Bargaining Committee.

The union represents 6,000 employees at the Windsor Assembly Plant.

The strike votes will take place October 17-18. Results will be announced on October 19.
