If you're travelling this March Break, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit wants to remind you that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
"Prevention starts with information and preparation," said Medical Officer of Health Doctor Mehdi Aloosh.
The health unit is encouraging anyone travelling this March Break to ensure their vaccinations are up to date.
"It's best to consult with a health care provider in advance of an international trip, especially to ensure you are up to date with your vaccinations and to obtain travel-specific advice," continued Aloosh.
Ideally, the health unit recommends updating immunizations at least two weeks before departure.
The health unit also has advice to avoid a food-borne illness while you're away, including only eating foods that are well-cooked and served hot, and drinking bottled water. It also suggests washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or using hand sanitizer with at least 60 per cent alcohol.
And if you go away, but return with an illness, it urges you to stay home.
