City expands outreach to those experiencing homelessness

The City of Windsor is temporarily enhancing its outreach initiative to those experiencing homelessness.

It has a collaboration with the Mobile Outreach Support Team to expand services, improve engagement with that population, and connect them to health, safety, and housing supports.

That includes expanding the hours of operation of the Mobile Outreach Support Team's van to seven days a week through to the end of March. Until March 31, the van will be on the road each day from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. to respond to requests for service.

City of Windsor Housing social workers will also provide clinical assessment, working alongside Family Services Windsor-Essex outreach workers, on the weekend. That is in addition to Family Services' availability Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Non-emergency support will be available by calling 311 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. during the week, and between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on the weekends.

When 311 is closed, callers can select from the homelessness response menu to connect with dispatchers.

Residents can also report homelessness through Windsor's 311 app.
