Man wanted for assault arrested with loaded gun and drugs

A 43-year-old man who was already wanted for assault, assault with a weapon, and theft faces 14 new charges after police seized a loaded stolen firearm and drugs.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police-led Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Unit arrested the man on Cabana Road on Wednesday following a physical altercation on Tuesday.

During the arrest, officers seized a stolen loaded Iver Johnson .32 calibre revolver with ammunition, 21.1 grams of cocaine, 6.8 grams of fentanyl, 222 hydromorphone tablets, and 221 clonazepam tablets.

The man now faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, possession of a firearm obtained by crime, possession of a prohibited firearm without holding a license or registration certificate, unsafe transportation of a firearm, four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, three counts of breach of a firearms prohibition order, and two of breach of probation.
