An initiative to pack bags of groceries for those less fortunate returns for a fourth year on Monday, Family Day.
During the Food for Families on Family Day event, volunteers representing a handful of sponsoring businesses will gather to pack 1,500 grocery bags of non-perishable food, which will then be distributed to vulnerable families across Windsor-Essex.
The event will take place on Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sobey's St. Clair Beach, on Amy Croft Drive near Manning Road in Lakeshore.
"Local officials have reported that one in four families in Windsor-Essex are now at risk of food security," said Paul Lue Pann, owner of Co-operators PLP Financial Services. "We are grateful to our local business partners and volunteers who are helping us bridge this gap for 1,500 families who otherwise might go without. It is a privilege to support our community year after year, and we look forward to another successful event."
The sponsors have donated the funds to purchase the food that will be packed into the bags, which will then be provided to families through the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society (WECAS), the Belle River-Rochester Goodfellows Inc., and the Windsor Essex County Food Bank Association.
If you would like to contribute non-perishable food, you may drop it off at Sobey's St. Clair Beach before 10 a.m. on Monday. Monetary contributions are also welcome.
