Since production at the NextStar Energy Plant on Banwell Road pivoted last November, it has produced a million battery cells for energy storage.
The plant has been scaling up production since then, and it expects those efforts to continue this year.
"The success of our production rampup belongs to our employees," said Chief Operating Officer at NextStar Energy Brett Hillock. "This achievement is a direct reflection of their discipline, technical expertise, and unwavering commitment."
The plant uses highly specialized processes and advanced automation to produce the batteries, which undergo a multi-stage quality verification process to ensure reliability standards are met.
Stellantis announced last week it was selling its 49 per cent equity stake in the plant to LG Energy Solution.
So far, 1,300 workers out of the anticipated 2,500 have been hired.
