Mayoral campaigns launched in Lambton

At least two deputy mayors in Lambton County have filed their papers to run for mayor in their respective municipalities in the fall election.

After serving two terms as deputy mayor for the Village of Point Edward, Greg Grimes has officially started his mayoral campaign.

The village confirmed Monday morning that Grimes is the only person to have filed nomination papers for mayor so far.

As of May 4, Point Edward Mayor Bev Hand has not indicated if she'll seek another term.

Petrolia Deputy Mayor Joel Field also filed his nomination papers on May 1 to run for mayor, after serving 16 years on council.

Petrolia Mayor Brad Loosley announced in February that he would not seek reelection.

The nomination period for the October 26 municipal election officially opened on Friday, May 1.

In Brooke-Alvinston, James Armstrong has officially thrown his hat into the ring to run for mayor.

Meanwhile, former St. Clair Township Mayor Steve Arnold is running for deputy mayor. Arnold stepped away from municipal politics in 2022.
