Upgrades planned at Arkona Sewage Treatment Facility

The Arkona Sewage Treatment Facility is getting a major facelift, helped out by $1,368,750 in provincial funding.

The grant through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program was celebrated on Thursday, March 19 .

Work at the facility will include the rehabilitation of the effluent building, replacement of aging filtration equipment, and related electrical and mechanical upgrades.

In a news release, The Municipality of Lambton Shores said the improvements will help ensure reliable operation of the facility, support future growth in the community, and improve the quality of treated water leaving the facility.

Lambton Shores Mayor Doug Cook commented on the funding.

“This is a critical infrastructure project in our community, and we appreciate the province’s support to complete these improvements this year,” said Cook. “This investment helps ensure the Arkona facility continues to meet the needs of our residents while supporting future growth in our community.”

The project will cost an estimated total of $1,875,000.

The remaining $506,250 will be financed through the municipality’s Wastewater Reserve Fund.
