A special council meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 24, to address recent comments made by City/County Councillor Bill Dennis that resulted in formal complaints from area First Nation chiefs.
On his personal Facebook page last week, Dennis criticized the money spent on a new welcoming mural at city hall. When questioned by Aamjiwnaang First Nation Chief Janelle Nahmabin in the comments, Dennis responded in a way many felt to be vulgar and offensive
The chiefs of Walpole Island First Nation and Kettle and Stony Point First Nation issued public letters, calling on city officials to respond to the situation under the Code of Conduct.
Tuesday's meeting will be held in council chambers, beginning at 10 a.m.
The meeting will be livestreamed through the city's website.
This is not the first time Dennis has found himself as the subject of integrity commissioner complaints.
In October 2025, Dennis was reprimanded for comments made during a Lambton County Council meeting in 2024, when he accused Aamjiwnaang First Nation of trying to get rid of "chemical valley."
At a city level, Dennis has had his pay suspended multiple times during this term for contravening code of conduct rules.
Dennis has not been allowed to attend city council meetings in-person since being banned from the governance office in early 2025 (except for limited circumstances).
An independent investigation found that he contravened the city’s Workplace Harassment and Violence Policy and Program. As reported during that time, the investigation incurred over $70,000.
