Sarnia resident faces child luring charges

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Sarnia resident in a child exploitation investigation.

Police said on Tuesday, November 18 the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit (CSEU) with assistance from Lambton OPP, the OPP Digital Forensics Unit, and the Chatham-Kent Police Service executed a search warrant at a Sarnia home and seized several electronic devices.

Eddy John Butler, 35, of Sarnia was arrested and charged with four counts of luring a person under 16, contrary to the Criminal Code.

"Online child sexual exploitation is a serious crime that harms the most vulnerable members of our community," said Detective Staff Sergeant Chris Barkey with the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit in a news release. "As law enforcement we must continue to work tirelessly with our partners to identify offenders and protect victims of abuse and exploitation. We encourage anyone with information about these crimes to come forward."

Butler was released from custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on December 17.
