A couple of local museums are planning holiday open houses for this week's professional activity (PA) day.
Lambton Heritage Museum and the Oil Museum of Canada have announced special programming on Friday, November 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Lambton County's Museums and Archives Marketing and Events Coordinator Jessica Stevenson said you can get into the holiday spirit by participating in nostalgic seasonal activities and crafts.
“Our annual holiday events bring Lambton’s history to life in a magical way,” said Stevenson. “Across both Lambton museums, families can discover how past generations celebrated the season through traditional treats, costumed interpreters, and hands-on activities.”
You'll be able to enjoy a cup of wassail, a traditional holiday drink made from apple cider, warmed on a wood burning stove in a historic building at the Grand Bend site.
At the Rokeby School you can make a Christmas cracker and hear stories of early settler holidays from a costumed interpreter in the Tudhop House.
There will also be hayrides around the museum grounds.
In Oil Springs, a Victorian Santa will tell stories and take photos with children.
There will also be a traditional candle-dipping activity, seasonal crafts, and wassail to drink.
Regular museum admission applies.
Participants are invited to bring non-perishable food items to support local food banks.
Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted in lieu of admission fees.
