KDSS Knights win first game of reborn football program

Kincardine District Secondary School won its first football game in over 60 years, defeating the Saugeen Royals on Friday night.

Thanks to the efforts of a group of dedicated volunteers, the KDSS Knights program returned in Fall 2025, after over 60 years of no high school football in the community.

The team's first season included plenty of lessons but no victories, as the Knights went winless in their return to the gridiron.

The 2026 season began with another loss, a 36-0 defeat to St. Mary's.

Then on Friday, the team finally broke through, knocking off the Royals 22-19 under the bright lights in the first-ever 'Pumpkin Bowl.'

The bowl game is a new tradition developed between the two schools, as SDSS plans to host the night contest on Pumpkinfest weekend.
