Bluewater investing in new breathing equipment for fire department

The Municipality of Bluewater is investing nearly $459,000 for new breathing equipment for its fire department.

Council approved the purchase during its November 2, 2026 meeting, awarding a contract worth $458,608, excluding HST, to A.J. Stone Company Ltd.

In its official council highlights, the municipality says it "Awarded Request for Proposal BW-Fire-02-2026" for the supply and delivery of the equipment.

The purchase includes 32 self-contained breathing apparatus units, 64 compressed-air cylinders, 64 face-pieces and four rapid-intervention kits, along with management software.

The breathing equipment allows firefighters to operate in smoke-filled environments and other situations where the air is unsafe to breathe.

The new units are specified to meet current National Fire Protection Association standards and operate at 4,500 pounds per square inch.

Bluewater began seeking proposals for the equipment in September, with the bidding process closing on October 28.

The municipality has not specified when the new equipment is expected to arrive.
