Brightshores Health System encourages screenings during Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Brightshores Health System is encouraging more proactive screenings during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

All eligible individuals across Grey-Bruce are being encouraged to book a breast screening appointment as a part of routine health care.

According to a media release from Brightshores, regular screenings can help detect breast cancer earlier in its growth, making it easier to treat.

To strengthen local diagnostic care and support timely follow-up, Brightshores now offers contrast-enhanced mammography. The specialized exam uses contrast dye to help radiologists see areas of concern more clearly and assess abnormal findings.

"Early detection can make all the difference in a patient’s treatment journey. At Brightshores, contrast‑enhanced mammography is available for cases where this may clarify uncertain findings or guide next steps, helping patients receive clear answers and timely follow‑up when it’s most needed," said Dr. Neil Rosta, Chief of Medical Imaging at Brightshores.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Ontario. Brightshores’ Ontario Breast Screening Program clinic in Owen Sound serves individuals from across Grey-Bruce. In 2025–26, Brightshores has completed 5,995 screening mammograms.

"Being able to self-refer removes a step that may have kept some people from getting screened. We want people to know that booking a mammogram is simple, close to home and an important way to take charge of their health," added Beth Morris, VP, Clinical Programs and Quality, Chief Nursing Executive at Brightshores.
