A proposed new library project in Listowel would include more than books, meeting rooms, and community programming, with North Perth revealing plans also include housing and social-service components.
The municipality is inviting residents to an open house later this month to see plans for the project and provide feedback.
North Perth says the proposal involves the North Perth Public Library, United Housing, and project architects +VG.
Library CEO Ellen Whelan says the municipality wants the project to respond to the needs of a rapidly growing community.
"The North Perth community is growing so much, and we want to continue to create a welcoming, connected space," said Whelan.
The municipality has not yet released details on how much housing would be included, what type of housing is envisioned or what social services could operate as part of the development.
United Housing CEO Ryan Erb says the project is part of the organization's broader effort to address housing needs in North Perth.
"United Housing is committed to building projects that fit the needs of the community," said Erb.
Residents will be able to view the plans and speak with library staff, board members, United Housing representatives, and the project architects during a public consultation October 20, 2026.
The drop-in session will run from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Listowel Branch at 260 Main Street West.
