North Perth is revisiting some of the biggest decisions surrounding a planned new outdoor pool in Listowel, including where it should be built and what the facility should look like.
Council directed staff at its September 14, 2026 meeting to examine alternative locations and design options for the project.
"Council directed staff to prepare a report exploring alternative locations and design options for the new Listowel outdoor pool," the municipality said in its council highlights.
The direction comes with North Perth already projecting millions of dollars in future spending on the facility.
The municipality's current 10-year capital forecast includes a total of $8.2 million for the Listowel Outdoor Pool, with $3.85 million budgeted in 2028, another $3.85 million in 2029 and $500,000 in 2030.
North Perth had also previously allocated $500,000 toward planning for a Listowel aquatic facility upgrade.
Despite that long-term funding plan, the latest council direction shows the location and final design of the future pool have not yet been settled.
The municipality's September 14 highlights do not identify which alternate sites are being considered or what potential design changes staff will examine.
Those details are expected to return to council in a future report.
The existing Listowel Kinsmen Pool is located on Royal Street East beside the Listowel Kinette Splash Pad.
It is one of two outdoor pools operated by North Perth, along with the Atwood Lions Pool.
The discussion is taking place as the municipality also works through an update of its Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
North Perth says the plan is intended to guide decisions around recreational facilities, parks, programs and services over the next decade.
Earlier this year, the municipality said the process would establish “a long-term vision and strategic direction” for recreation in North Perth.
More than 600 surveys were completed during the public consultation process.
No timeline has yet been announced for when the report on alternative locations and designs for the Listowel pool will return to council.
