Hanover's new fire hall has achieved net zero status after its first year in operation.
The station was completed in 2025, and was designed to generate solar power while reducing electrical consumption through an energy-efficient design.
In an update to council this week, Fire Chief Jeff Dentinger said the building is operating better than intended.
"Between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026; we produced 303.2 (MWh) and we utilized 279.1 (MWh)," said Dentinger. "The station generated 24.1 (MWh) more electricity than it consumed during the reporting period which exceeds the Net Zero requirement and represents a positive energy balance for the first full year of operation."
Director of Corporate Services Jelena Savic said the Town will now be able to send the results to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Green Municipal Fund to access $100,000 in grant funding.
Dentinger said energy updates on the new $7 million hall could continue to be included in his annual report to council.
