The Grey Bruce Public Health board appointed a new permanent Medical Officer of Health at Friday's meeting.
The Health Unit announced Dr. Brittany Graham will take over the position, after serving in the role in an acting capacity since April 16.
She took over for Dr. Ian Arra, who stepped down in the spring.
"Dr. Graham has done an excellent job as Acting Medical Officer of Health, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the permanent position," said Ken Craig, Board of Health Chair.
However, with Graham set to begin almost a year of parental leave in a few weeks, the board also announced that Dr. Eileen de Villa will serve as Acting Medical Officer of Health and CEO during that time.
De Villa served as the Special Advisor to the Chief Medical Officer of Health, during the year that the province ran the board of health.
"I am honoured to take on the role of Acting Medical Officer of Health and Chief Executive Officer, and to support the important work already underway at GBPH." said Dr. de Villa. "During Dr. Graham’s absence, I will focus on advancing her vision for the organization, while supporting GBPH staff as they continue delivering essential programs and services to the people of Grey-Bruce."
She also served as Medical Officer of Health for the City of Toronto from 2017 to 2024.
