The Municipality of Kincardine will be tearing down the barn at the entrance to Geddes Park starting Monday.
According to the Municipality, the barn has cracks in the foundation walls and is structutrally deficient. Engineers did not recommend remediation due to the severity of the damage and costs.
The barn is currently vacant and was most recently used for storage by community and labyrinth garden user groups
The Municipality said it will begin removing the structure the week of August 31 for the safety of park users and the public.
While work is underway, the Geddes Park parking lot will be closed, along with a section of the Red Trail.
The labyrinth will remain accessible via the Red Trail.
Following removal of the barn, the Municipality said the area will be restored through naturalization, including new plantings and grasses.
Heritage Kincardine is also documenting the barn's history, with a heritage plaque anticipated to be installed in spring 2027 to commemorate the structure.
