Grey Bruce Public Health (GBPH) is warning drug users in the region that a toxic level of fentanyl has been found in a sample of local meth.
The health unit said a local drug-checking machine detected fentanyl in the yellow-brown substance.
The alert was issued days after multiple overdoses were reported in Owen Sound in Saugeen Shores. According to GBPH, the suspected substance in two of the overdoses was fentanyl and unknown in the other cases. All of the overdoes occurred on Wednesday.
The health unit encourages all people who use drugs to have naloxone on hand and always to have a sober friend with them who can administer naloxone and call 911 in case of an overdose.
