The Municipality of Morris-Turnberry is looking for residents to join the committee that will help determine the future of a local war memorial that was taken down earlier this summer.
The Galbraith Field Memorial Gates were dismantled in June after structural damage to the pillars was discovered. The Municipality told CKNXNewsToday that it was taken apart by hand, with each stone catalogued and put into storage.
The volunteer committee of four members of the public and one councillor will review options for the memorial, including: whether to restore and reconstruct it at the Galbraith Field, find a new location for the gate or replace the memorial altogether.
The Municipality says preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate knowledge of local history, heritage preservation, engineering, fundraising, or community engagement.
The committee is expected to meet as needed over a period of six months and will prepare a final report and recommendation for Council's consideration.
Residents interested in serving are invited to submit a brief letter or email outlining their interest and any relevant experience.
The deadline to apply is Friday, August 5 at noon.
