Kincardine residents are being asked to cut down on their water usage this week.
The municipality is making the request as it conducts scheduled maintenance to ensure its water intake line from Lake Huron is clear of invasive zebra mussels.
"The project involves replacing the chlorination line that runs from the water treatment plant to the beginning of the raw water intake line approximately 750 metres into Lake Huron," the municipality said in a statement. "This line disperses chlorine while the plant is operating to prevent zebra mussel growth around and within the intake line. Keeping the intake line clear helps ensure the municipality can maintain the water flow needed to provide reliable drinking water.
The maintenance is scheduled to run Monday through to Saturday. During that time, residents are encouraged to conserve water from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Suggested ways residents can cut down on their water use include limiting outdoor watering, postponing laundry and dishwashing until the evening, taking shorter showers, and turning off taps when not in use.
According to the municipality, these measures will reduce demand on the system allowing the treatment plant to remain offline for longer periods while crews and divers work to complete the maintenance safely and efficiently.
