Six people have been arrested after police seized over $137,000 worth of stolen property in an investigation spanning areas of Grey County and beyond.
According to the Grey Bruce Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), an increase in break-and-enter theft investigations took place in the spring. As a result, on June 22, OPP officers first located multiple suspects operating a stolen pickup truck loaded with stolen property while towing a stolen tractor on the 5th Line in the Township of Melancthon. Two people were arrested and a third suspect who ran off was arrested a short time later.
On June 23, OPP officers from Grey Bruce, Dufferin, Huron, Perth, Brant, Oxford, Haldimand, and the Norfolk Community Street Crime Units, assisted by members of the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment and the West Grey Police Service, executed five search warrants.
They were executed at a home on Grey Road 4 near Jane Street in Ceylon, a home on Grey Road 14 near Sideroad S in Grey Highlands, two properties on Highway 6 near 18 Sideroad in West Grey, and a property on 6th Line near 18 Sideroad in Melancthon.
Six people in total have been arrested and charged with a long list of offences, including theft, break-and-entering, firearms offences and much more. The suspects range in age from 35-57 years of age, and hail from Ceylon, Grey Highlands, and West Grey.
Police confirmed that they have returned, or are in the process of returning, almost all of the recovered stolen property.
