Hanover Fire and Emergency Services says a vehicle fire in the parking lot of the Hanover LCBO caused damage to two vehicles and the building on the weekend, but no injuries were reported.
Firefighters were called to the scene on 10th Street just before 5 p.m. Saturday and found a gas-powered SUV fully engulfed in flames. Eighteen firefighters responded and prevented the fire from spreading further to the LCBO and nearby vehicles.
The department says one nearby vehicle sustained minor heat damage, while a window at the LCBO was also damaged. The fire temporarily closed the store and led to the closure of 24th Avenue while crews worked at the scene.
Hanover Fire says investigators have determined the cause of the fire to be "undetermined" and that the incident has been deemed "not suspicious."
Police also helped remove animals from a nearby vehicle before firefighters arrived. One animal fled the area during the incident but was later safely reunited with its owner.
In a social media post, Hanover Fire reminded residents that "vehicle fires can grow and spread faster than most people expect" and urged anyone experiencing a vehicle fire to get to a safe distance and call 911.
