The Saugeen Shores Police Service is warning local businesses to be on alert after receiving several reports of counterfeit currency circulating in the community.
Police say businesses have reported being passed fake $50 and $100 bills during recent transactions.
They are reminding staff to carefully inspect large denomination bills (and, if possible, all cash payments), and to watch for anything suspicious during transactions.
Anyone who believes they may have received counterfeit money, or who notices suspicious activity, is being asked to contact police at 519-832-2500.
Investigators say they will need details such as the date and time of the transaction, descriptions of the suspect or vehicle involved, licence plate information if available, and any relevant security camera footage in order to properly follow up on reports.
