Arran-Elderslie mourns passing of former Councillor

The flag at the municipal office of Arran- Elderslie has been lowered in honour of a former councillor that passed away last week.

Doug Bell died in Chesley on May 22, at the age of 86.

Bell was a long-time municipal staff member prior to his retirement in 2004. Then in 2010, he ran for Chesley Ward Councillor, a seat he held for three terms until 2022.

"Doug dedicated his life to serving the people of Chesley and Arran-Elderslie," said Steve Hammell, Mayor of Arran-Elderslie in a release. "He was passionate about healthcare, a committed volunteer, and he will be deeply missed."

A visitation will be held at Rhody Family Funeral Home on Thursday evening, with the funeral being held Friday morning.
