Kincardine council candidates finalized

Three people have thrown their hats in the ring to finish off this term of Kincardine council.

Bill McKeeman, Carol Blake and Jason Munro are the candidates to fill the vacant seat on council, following the end of the application period on Friday afternoon.

The Municipality of Kincardine was short a member of council after Deputy Mayor Andrea Clarke resigned in April to pursue other opportunities. Mike Hinschberger was chosen to fill the Deputy Mayor position and his Councillor seat was declared vacant on April 22.

Council must name a replacement by June 21, and holding a by-election was not an option this close to the fall municipal elections.

As a result of the short turnaround, council was only accepting submissions from previous applicants for the 2024 vacancy, candidates in the 2022 election or previous council members over the last decade.

Blake ran for the Ward 2 seat in the 2022 election, while McKeeman ran in Ward 3.

Munro, a vice-president with the Kincardine Chamber, applied for the vacancy in 2024 left after the passing of Doug Kennedy.

Applicants will have an opportunity to present to Council at the Special Appointment Meeting on June 3 at 5 p.m.
