New library series to educate Bruce County residents on wills

The Bruce County Public Library aims to improve area residents' understanding of wills and powers of attorney through an upcoming three-part series.

The sessions will be held at three library branches on April 9, 16, and 23 with each branch taking a different time slot. Sessions at the Port Elgin branch are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., while the Kincardine branch will host at 2 p.m., and the Walkerton branch will hold sessions at 6 p.m.

The series is being led by Grey-Bruce Community Legal Clinic Staff Lawyer Angela Yenssen. Those who attend will learn about the importance of having a will and power of attorney, how these documents work, and how to choose the right person to act on their behalf. Other topics that will be covered include what happens to those who don't have a will and whether you should appoint more than one person as power of attorney.

"The sessions will also explore real-life considerations around financial decision-making, care planning, and what can happen if these documents are not prepared," library officials said in a statement. "These sessions are valuable not only for those new to estate planning, but also for individuals who already have documents in place and want to revisit their choices. Attendees often leave with greater confidence in reviewing their documents and making decisions."

The sessions are free to attend, but pre-registration through the library's website is required.

Library officials recommend attending all three sessions in the series to get the most beneficial understanding of wills and power of attorney.
