Pellet gun seized after reports of man with handgun in Stratford

A man walking down a Stratford street with what appeared to be a black handgun was actually carrying a pellet gun.

Police were called about the man on Devon Street around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Stratford and Perth County OPP police officers  searched the area, but were unable to find the man. They then appealed to the public for video surveillance footage from around the time of the sighting.

Using the footage, police were able to identify a 19-year-old Stratford man as a suspect.

Investigators went to a home in the city where they seized a pellet gun that looked like a Glock pistol.

"Further investigation is being conducted to determine if criminal charges will be laid," Stratford police said.

The police service also thanked the public for its quick response which it said helped officers identify a suspect.
