Go-kart driver charged with impaired driving

Huron OPP are reminding that even on a go-kart, impaired driving is illegal.

The warning comes after police were called about a go-kart being driven on the road in Hensall last month. Officers stopped the machine on Queen Street just before 11 a.m. on February 19. The driver was taken to the Huron County OPP detachment in Clinton where they reportedly failed a sobriety test conducted by a drug recognition expert.

A 24-year-old Bluewater resident is charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs and driving while prohibited. The accused is scheduled to appear in Goderich court on March 30.

The go-kart was towed from the scene and impounded for 45 days, police said.
