Huron Chamber launching Women's Leadership Initiative

The Huron Chamber of Commerce is launching a new Women's Leadership Initiative this fall.

The chamber announced the new initiative in tandem with International Women's Day. Heather Glenister, the Membership Services Coordinator for the chamber, will lead it. Glenister says the goal is to bring women from various backgrounds and fields across the county together to share experiences and empower each other to take on more leadership roles, no matter the setting.

"We want to be able to curate opportunities that helps them flourish in those roles. So connection, collaboration, mentorship and learning. Over the next couple months, I'm going to be talking to women around the county to learn about what's relevant to them," Glenister explained.

Glenister adds she's putting together a a committee of community leaders so that the program is shaped by direct input from women across the region.

"In business, in agriculture, in the charitable sector or even in public service like education, government, policing, all of those sorts of roles that are important to the vibrancy of our community," she said.

With a goal of having a vast array of women with many different experiences coming together, Glenister points out that the initiative isn't just for women looking to become leaders now.

"It's also for women who have lots of leadership experience, or those women who are just starting out in their careers. Also, it's for women, as I like to say, who are reimagining what their careers look like at the various stages of our lives," she added.

Glenister also notes that doing this in a unique region like Huron County will be great, because there is a distinct feel to the region that differs from more urban centres, and it's important to celebrate that and empower the women that are part of that.

The initiative will have a kick-off event October 1 at the White Carnation in Holmesville. More details will be released over the coming months. For more information and to sign up for news on the Women's Leadership Initiative, visit the Huron Chamber of Commerce website.
