Durham man arrested in Hanover stabbing

Hanover police say a 55-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing last month.

It happened on the evening of Wednesday, February 25, in the area of 12th Street and 10th Avenue. A 35-year-old man suffered stab wounds in the upper body and face.

During the investigation, it was also revealed that a 25-year-old Perth County man had also been stabbed while trying to break up the altercation. His injuries were minor, and he declined medical treatment.

Both victims were able to get away and run to a nearby house for help.

Investigators obtained warrants, interviewed witnesses, and looked at video footage obtained from registrants on Cansafe.ca.

The suspect was arrested at around 5:30 a.m. on Monday. He is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and having a weapon dangerous to public peace.

"The Hanover Police Service wants to thank our community for their assistance on this investigation, especially those who have taken time to register their residential, commercial, and business cameras on Camsafe.ca," said Hanover Police Chief Chris Knoll. "This registry has proven invaluable to our investigative teams, that has saved precious time and resources, especially during early stages of investigations, while helping police investigators quickly secure important video footage."

The charges have not been proven in court.

The suspect was held on Monday for a bail hearing and was later released with conditions.
