Overdose alert issued by GBPH

The Grey Bruce Public Health Unit has issued an alert after 13 opioid-related overdoses were reported in the region in six days.

The overdoses occurred in Owen Sound, West Grey, Hanover, Walkerton, Port Elgin, and South Bruce Peninsula between February 25 and March 2.

According to the Health Unit, the suspected substance was fentanyl in four cases and unknown opioids in two others. The individuals that were given naloxone were responsive to treatment.

GBPH reminds those who use drugs to have naloxone on hand and to always have a sober friend with them who can administer it and call 911 in case of an overdose. Naloxone is available at pharmacies, participating community partners, and at Grey Bruce Public Health during open hours, no appointment needed.
