Police reminding the public to stay away from ice

With a recent thaw and significant snow melt, police are reminding the public of how dangerous ice can be during this time of year.

The South Bruce OPP have put out a public reminder to everyone to be extremely cautious near icy lakes and rivers.

Ice on rivers and lakes is thinning significantly with an uptick in temperatures, and can be extremely dangerous even when it appears to be solid.

Police add that if you're near the shoreline, you should keep a safe distance and keep children and pets close.

Falling through the ice can be deadly and puts not only you, but first responders at risk, as well.
