In an effort to keep kids learning, even when the snow prevents them from physically getting to school, the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board (BGCDSB) has launched a new suite of online resources.
Called "Always Learning", the new website is packed with curriculum-based learning activities. The resources are designed for self-directed study and are optional, the school board clarified.
"We recognize that the frequency of weather disruptions in our area can create challenges for our families," Board Chair Lori Di Castri said in a statement. "Our goal is to provide high-quality options that maintain a connection to learning without adding undue stress to families."
The Always Leaning site includes grade-specific content released through the BrightSpace platform on days school buses are cancelled. There are also a variety of tech-enabled and "no-tech" self-guided learning activities on multiple subjects, including specific supports for special education and mental health. Students can access the learning materials by logging on with their board Google accounts. Families can request hard copy packages of learning supplements in advance of snow days, the board added.
While directed and self guided learning will be available when school buses are cancelled, only independent learning activities will be offered when schools are closed due to weather.
The school board will offer dedicated tech support for the platform between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on school days by texting 226-773-3556 or calling 519-364-5820 ext. 903.
