Five charged in $15K drug bust in Markdale

Five people are facing serious charges after $15,000 in illegal drugs and $30,000 worth of stolen property were seized by police during a raid at a home in Markdale.

Grey Bruce OPP launched a drug trafficking investigation last fall that led them to search the home on Wellington Street around 5:40 a.m. on January 16. Officers allegedly found 77 grams of suspected fentanyl, approximately 40 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 29 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and multiple ecstasy, oxycodone, and clonazepam pills. Roughly $3,000 in cash and a baseball bat with a hatchet and another sharp object affixed to it were also seized.

Three men and two women were arrested without issue.

A 48-year-old Markdale man and a 30-year-old Hanover woman are charged with multiple offences including five counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of tracking, three counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of break-in instruments.

A 52-year-old man, a 45-year-old man, and a 32-year-old woman, all from Markdale, are charged with possession of drugs, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of property obtained by crime.

All but two of the accused have been released from custody with future court dates.
