Snowy conditions again halt school buses in midwestern Ontario

Lake effect snow combined with strong winds are making for another treacherous day in midwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada is advising against unnecessary travel in the region on Thursday, with a yellow-level snow squall warning in place for Grey-Bruce and a blowing snow advisory for Huron County, Perth County, and northern Wellington County.

The weather alert for Grey-Bruce states another 20 to 40 centimetres of snow is expected to fall Thursday through Friday.

The other regions will see far lower accumulation totals with lake effect flurries only to drop 2 to 4 centimetres throughout the day.

Winds will gust up to 60 kilometres an hour, which will cause blowing and drifting snow.

"The blowing snow will be most pronounced in open and wind exposed areas," Environment Canada said. "Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. If driving, turn on your lights, slow down and maintain a safe following distance."

All school buses in Grey-Bruce and North Wellington are cancelled for the day, as are a bunch in Huron-Perth. It is the fourth straight day the region has had widespread bus cancellations. The full list of cancellations and road closures can be found by clicking here.

Environment Canada anticipates snow squalls will again be an issue for midwestern Ontario on Friday.
